drunken physicists

The physics department had a graduate student/upper-level students happy hour in the common room today. Bit of pizza [Pizza Hut, even here :-( ] and drinks. It was kind of surprising to see the profs and students all drinking together... I suppose that makes sense with the drinking age at 18 though. I didn't feel like spending money and had work to do afterwards so I didn't have any, but it just seems weird that the department would have given me wine/beer without any question!

Speaking of which, I must look pretty old because I've been to a few happy hours with the tramping club and the harriers (running) club, and even bought some wine at the supermarket and not been asked for ID once! The only time anyone wanted to see my ID was when I went out clubbing with my flatmates. I guess later at night when it's more crowded they get more strict.
