First Tramp

27 February

This was the introductory trip with the tramping club. We took buses out to a trail head and hiked up to the summit of Mount Cargill, while hoping for the swiriling mists to go away. They did eventually (pictures to follow). Then we hiked down for a while to Bethunes Valley where there were barbeques set up, along with a keg. Kiwis like their alcohol, especially after tramps. They do not go hiking or camping, just tramping. Also, barbeques down here generally mean sausages (not hot-dogs; if you ask for one of those you get a battered and fried sausage) with grilled onions and sauce (meaning ketchup) and wrapped in a slice of bread. As you may or may not know, I hate sausages. Luckily though, there seem to be a good amount of vegetarians (or "vegos") in the tramping club so they also had some pretty good falafel. Yes Williams dining hall goers, falafel can be good.

Again, great views, great to be out in the wilderness, and great people to talk to and try to get to know. Also, as seems to be a tradition on tramping club trips, it rained. Didn't last for long though, and there were tents at the barbeque.
