Pulpit Rock

3 April

I ran the Pulpit Rock Pursuit mountain running race today! It was something like 20 km total, with a vertical gain of 750 meters (which is about 2500 feet!) The most accurate way I can think of to describe it is that it was not trivial.

Basically the run was straight up a mountain, and then all the way back down. Except that once you got to the top, somehow you kept going up. There were rolling hills for a while, so you would go down for a bit, nearly break your ankle, splash through the puddles at the bottom of the hill, and then have to climb back up again. The final downhill was nice though, and so was the view from the top (except that at that point all I wanted to do was die).

I started out in the front half and let people pass me for the first 10 or 15 minutes or so, and then spent the rest of the race picking them off one-by-one. I forget what place I ended up in and the site still doesn't have the results up yet, but it was somewhere in the middle-ish. It took me about 2 hours to finish, and first place was around 1:30.

I got a group picture with all the people from the uni Harriers Club who I ran the race with (meaning, for the most part, behind) and hopefully I'll get that up sometime
